Plan Mode lets Claude read freely but blocks writes — perfect for discussing approach before any file is touched. Press Shift+Tab to cycle into Plan Mode. The agent can Read, Grep, and run safe Bash but can't Edit or Write. You get a plan you can approve, redirect, or throw out — without unwinding half-applied changes. Use it for refactors, migrations, or any task where 'measure twice' matters. Implementation example: # Toggle modes (Shift+Tab cycles) 1. Default — full tools 2.
